Choosing The Right Golf Bag

Almost every golfer needs a golf bag; even the most casual golfer has a golf bag. Having the correct golf bag is as important as having the correct golf clubs.

It is another tool to help raise your game. If your golf clubs and other equipments are stored in an appropriate and organized bag, you can concentrate on your game. Otherwise, you can be scrambling to find your rain gear when there is a sudden shower, or for another golf ball to replace the one you just hit into the lake. There are several things to consider when you are looking to purchase a golf bag, brand is not necessarily one of them.

1. Size
Size does matter! Some tour bags seem like they are big enough to double as a shelter in a rainstorm, while some golf bags are so small that they look like they could not hold more than a putter and a driver. So how big a golf bag do you really need? Try to determine your present requirements, based on your current set of golfing equipment. Then consider how your equipment list may change and grow over the projected lifetime of the golf bag.

2. Durability
How durable a golf bag depends on design, material and treatment. If you golf only once in a long while, and shores your golf bag in our own house after use, you can make do with a nylon bag which is not too expensive. If you golf more frequently, and keep your golf bag in the trunk (or boot) of your car, then you will probably want to consider having a bag made of leather or vinyl. Remember, your golf bag not only carries your clubs and other equipment, it also protects your clubs.

3. Style
Depending on how you move around the course, you would want to decide between a carry bag and a cart bag. A cart bag is nice if you use golf cart often, cart bags are also designed to be used with a pull cart. If you are considering a cart bag, do spend some thoughts on the type of pull cart you will use. Test the case of motion and the comfort of the handle at your preferred transportation angles. Keep a lookout for any of the features that help your transport the golf bag, see if they are adjustable, as the center of gravity will vary depending on the load in the bag. If you are used to walking, you should look for a golf bag that is comfortable, lightweight and designed to minimize the stress on your back and shoulders. Many golf bags have gel carry straps for shoulder comfort.

4. Depth/Design
If you use extended length shafts, ensure that the golf bag you are considering will have adequate protection to as much of the shaft as possible, and comes with enough club dividers for your needs.

5. Cosmetics
Colors and accessories are really a matter of personal preferences, and how much extra money you are willing to spend. Some golfers just want a place to put their clubs while some want to be unique.

6. Storage
It does not matter how often you play golf, at some point in time, you will need to store the golf bag somewhere. When considering a golf bag, ensure that the size of the golf bag you purchase will fit into the area you will be storing it.
